NGC 98 သည် barred spiral ဂလက်ဆီအမျိုးအစားဖြစ်ပြီး ကြယ်စုတန်း Phoenix တွင် တည်ရှိသည်။ ယင်းအား ဗြိတိသျှလူမျိုး နက္ခတ္တပညာရှင် ဂျွန်ဟာရှယ်မှ ၁၈၄၃ ခုနှစ် စက်တင်ဘာ ၆ တွင် ရှာဖွေတွေ့ရှိခဲ့သည်။
