အင်းကျား သည် ကြောင်မျိုးရင်းဝင် တိရိစ္ဆာန်များအနက် အလယ်အလတ် အရွယ်အစားရှိသော တောရိုင်းတိရိစ္ဆာန် ဖြစ်ပြီး ဟိမဝန္တာ တောင်ခြေများမှ ဗဟို အရှေ့တောင်အာရှဒေသများအပြင် တရုတ်ပြည်တောင်ပိုင်းအထိပါ ဖြန့်ကျက်တွေ့ရှိရပါသည်။ ၂၀၀၈ ခုနှစ်မှစ၍ ICUN အနီရောင်စာရင်း တွင် ၎င်းတို့အား အားနည်းသော မျိုးစိတ်အဖြစ် သတ်မှတ်ခဲ့ပါသည်။ ၎င်းတို့၏ အကောင် အရေအတွက် စုစုပေါင်းအနေဖြင့် အရွယ်ရောက်ပြီး အကောင်ရေ ၁၀၀၀၀ အောက်သာ ရှိပြီး ဒေသတစ်ခုစီ၌ အရွယ်ရောက်စ အကောင်ရေ ၁၀၀၀ ကျော်ရှိသော ဒေသဟူ၍ မရှိဟု ခန့်မှန်းထားသည်။

၎င်းအား ပါဏဗေဒအလိုအရ နီရိုဖဲလစ် နီဘူလိုစာ (Neofelis nebulosa) ဟု ခေါ်ဆိုပြီး တရားဝင်သတ်မှတ်ထားခြင်းမရှိသော ၎င်း၏ မျိုးစိတ်ကွဲ ဆူမတ်တျား အင်းကျား (Sunda Clouded Leopard) (N. diardi ) နှင့် ကွဲပြားစေရန် အင်္ဂလိပ်ဘာသာဖြင့် Mainland Clouded Leopard ဟုလည်း ခေါ်ဆိုလေ့ရှိသည်။ [3] ၎င်းသည် အိန္ဒိယနိုင်ငံ၊ Meghalaya ပြည်နယ်၏ ပြည်နယ် ပြယုဒ် တိရိစ္ဆာန်ဖြစ်ပါသည်။ [4]

Felis nebulosa ဟူသော အမည်အား ၁၈၂၁ ခုနှစ်တွင် တရုတ်နိုင်ငံမှ ရသော အင်းကျား သားရေအား ဖော်ထုတ်ပြသခဲ့သူ Edward Griffith ဆိုသူမှ အဆိုပြုခဲ့ခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။ [5] ၁၈၄၁ ခုနှစ်တွင် Brian Houghton Hodgson ဆိုသူမှ Felis macrosceloides ဆိုသော အမည်အား နီပေါနိုင်ငံမှ အင်းကျား နမူနာ ဖြင့် အဆိုပြုခဲ့ခြင်း ဖြစ်သည်။ [6] [7] ၁၈၆၂ ခုနှစ်တွင် Robert Swinhoe ဆိုသူမှ Felis brachyura ဟူသော အမည်အား ထိုင်ဝမ်မှ ရသော အင်းကျား သားရေဖြင့် အဆိုပြုခဲ့သည်။ [8] Neofelis ဟူသော မျိုးစု အမည်အား John Edward Grey ဆိုသူမှ ၁၈၆၇ ခုနှစ် တွင် အဆိုတင်သွင်းခဲ့ပြီး မျိုးစိတ် သုံးမျိုးစလုံးအား ဤ မျိုးစု အောက်သို့ ထည့်သွင်းခဲ့သည်။ [9] လက်ရှိတွင် N. nebulosa ဟူသော မျိုးစိတ်အမည်အား မျိုးစိတ်ကွဲ ခွဲခြားသတ်မှတ်ခြင်းအတွက် သက်သေအထောက်အထားမရှိခြင်းကြောင့် တစ်မျိုးတည်းသောမျိုးစိတ် တစ်ခုအဖြစ်သတ်မှတ်ထားသည်။[3]
