NGC 491 သည် Sculptor ကြယ်စုတန်းရှိ ကမ္ဘာမြေမှ အလင်းနှစ် ၁၇၈ မီလီယံကွာဝေးသော ခရုပတ်ပုံစံ ဂလက်ဆီဖြစ်သည်။[2][3] ဂလက်ဆီ၏ အရှိန်မှာ ၃၈၆၈ km/s.[3] ဖြစ်ပြီး ဂျွန် ဟာရှယ်က ၁၈၃၄ ခုနှစ်တွင် ရှာဖွေတွေ့ရှိခဲ့သည်။[4]
