NGC 266 သည် မိန် နက္ခတာရာမှ ခရုပတ်ပုံစံ ဂယ်လက်ဆီဖြစ်ပြီး ၁၇၈၆ စက်တင်ဘာ ၁၂ တွင် ဝီလီယံ ဟာရှယ် ဆိုသူမှ ရှာဖွေတွေ့ရှိခဲ့သည်။[2] ယင်း၍ စွမ်းအားနိမ့် အိုင်ယွန်းနိုက်ဇေးရှင်း နယူကလိယား ထုတ်လွှတ်နယ်မြေ တည်ရှိပြီး တက်ကြွသော ဂယ်လက်ဆီအမျိုးအစားဖြစ်သည်။[3]
